Puno Journey

Hello readers! Thanks so much for your patience to receive news during my time in Perú. Here is a gallery from my first visit to Puno in the South and highest reach of the Andes in the country. I went during the first part of Candelaria, a week-long celebration and the third largest folk-arts gathering in South America.

On this trip, I visited the offices of Movimiento Manuela Ramos, a national feminist organization working more than 30 years to improve the rights and lives of women. Their program Casa de la Mujer Artesana connects artesania with instruction on production, empowering women in their creative work for almost a decade. A special thanks to Verónica Galvez Condori, the director at the Puno office of MMR, for a warm reception and continued collaboration.

I had the pleasure of visiting the artesanas of Juli on the shores of Lake Titicaca, about 90 kilometers from Puno — and no less than on my fortieth birthday! The photography from this visit and in Chazuta with papermakers is featured in my exhibition “Movimiento … De Cabeza a los Pies”.
